Do You Suffer From Bunions?

Do You Suffer From Bunions?

Amongst the multitude of different lower extremity pathologies, bunions are one of the more common abnormalities that walk into Dr. Garrett Nelson’s office. They can be caused by many factors such as joint instability or hypermobility, abnormal biomechanics or anatomy, as well as genetics. They can be painful for some, disabling for others, but many are simply bothered by their appearance.

Taking an X-Ray is the first step of treatment to visualize the boney deformity and where the abnormality originates from. Analyzing the X-Ray is key to determining the proper treatment. Paired with the clinical symptoms of pain, redness, and swelling, Dr. Nelson is then able to dictate a specific treatment plan based on what is best for that specific patient.

Treatments vary from conservative to surgical intervention. Often, simply altering shoe gear can go a long way in the initial management. However, if left untreated, or with a more significant deformity, surgical intervention may be required. This will involve realigning the joint and restoring proper anatomical function of the foot. Come talk to a specialist such as Dr. Nelson to formulate your own specific treatment plan for your bunions.
