Why Does it Feel Like I am Stepping on a Rock?

Why Does it Feel Like I am Stepping on a Rock?

At Advanced Foot & Ankle Center we see patients for all kinds of foot problems.  Some people will come in feeling like they are stepping on a pebble or a rock.  Usually this is at the ball of the foot.  Today, we are going to talk about some of the possible causes for this.

The first thing we will do is listen to you.  We will find out how long this has been occurring for, when it is at its worst, anything out of the ordinary that could have caused it, how often the sensation is there, anything you have tried to make it better, etc.  After this, we will evaluate your foot and area of concern.

One of the more common causes for this sensation is called a neuroma which is a pinched nerve in the ball of the foot.  The nerve becomes swollen and it can feel like there is a fullness to the ball of the foot or stepping on a pebble.  Other causes can be due to a callus from a prominent bone at the ball of the foot, a wart, a clogged sweat gland and even retained foreign body.

Treatment will be based on your diagnosis and will be tailored to your needs and lifestyle.  At Advanced Foot and Ankle center we see patients everyday with this type of issue.  We can help you get back on your feet quickly and efficiently.  If you are experiencing this or any other foot/ankle condition, please call us at 972-542-2155.

Have a great day.
